Understanding Insurance Coverage Maps
Not all health insurance networks are created equal. Some insurers have deep coverage in certain states while offering minimal networks in others. Our coverage heatmap lets you quickly see where each insurer has the most in-network doctors, helping you evaluate which plan best matches your location.
The data shown here comes from federal Transparency in Coverage filings that insurers are required to publish. Each tile on the map represents a state, colored from light (fewer doctors) to dark (more doctors). Darker states indicate a stronger provider network presence for that insurer.
How to Use This Tool
- Select an insurance company from the dropdown to view their coverage map.
- Hover over any state tile to see the exact doctor count and network percentage.
- Compare different insurers by switching between them to see how coverage varies.
- Check the Top 10 States list below the map for a ranked summary.
Network size is one factor in choosing a health insurance plan. Always verify that your specific doctors are in-network by checking with the insurer or provider's office before making plan decisions.

The heatmap shows network density. Our matcher tells you which specific plans cover the doctors you already see — usually faster than calling each office.
