AmeriGel Wound Dressing

AmeriGel Wound Dressing is classified by the FDA as a hydrogel, indicated for use on “stages I – IV pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, diabetic skin ulcers, 1st and 2nd degree burns, post surgical incisions, cuts and abrasions.” AmeriGel Wound Dressing contains Oak extract (Oakin™), an astringent derived from Tannins, which provides antimicrobial, antifungal and inflammatory properties, as well as an aggressive autolytic debrider. In a MIC test, the Oak extract proved to be bactericidal against 49 gram – and gram + microbes, including the typical staph, strep and pseudomonas. Oakin™ proliferates proteins to the wound bed and decreases cell membrane permeability. The Meadowsweet extract is plant derived and yields a safe natural salicylic aldehyde that provides mild analgesia, particularly in a stasis ulcer. The last ingredient, Zinc acetate, is a well-known antiseptic and skin protectant. The base is polyethylene glycol (PEG), which liquefies at body temperature, enabling it to reach areas of tunneling and undermining and helps to maintain a moist wound bed.
Contraindications: Do not use if there is a known allergy to Oak or Oak Pollen.
